Five Facets of Health: Week 27
If you're new to the 5 Facets of Health, learn more here. Avoid trying to implement everything at once! These suggestions are meant to spark ideas. To build healthy habits, focus on one or two aspects over the next week.
Physical Health
It's common for diet and exercise routines to slip during the holidays. While indulging in delicious food is okay, let's stay mindful of our choices. Commit to maintaining an exercise routine. Simplicity is key—try a 10-minute run, 30 sit-ups and push-ups, or some yoga or stretching to keep your body active during this season.
“Stay active during the holidays, and your body will thank you in the New Year.”
Action: Schedule short daily workouts to stay active through the holidays.
Mental Health
The holidays can be hectic. If you're feeling overwhelmed, take a brief mental break. Find a quiet space, lock the door, close your eyes, and take 10 minutes to breathe deeply. Prioritize your mental well-being to enhance your holiday experience.
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes…Including you.”
— Anne Lamott
Action: Dedicate 10 minutes daily for a mindful breathing break.
Emotional Health
Enjoy your time with loved ones this season. If someone's actions or words irk you, choose to give them the benefit of the doubt and let it go. Investing in and nurturing family relationships is worth the effort.
“Give people the benefit of the doubt, over and over again, and do the same for yourself. Believe that you’re trying and that they’re trying. See the good in others, so it brings out the best in you.”
― Liz Newman
Action: Practice patience and understanding with family members.
Spiritual Health
Practice gratitude this week. Reflect on your blessings and the greater purpose in your life. There is much to be thankful for, and expressing gratitude can deepen your spiritual well-being.
“If the only prayer you said was ‘thank you,’ that would be enough.”
― Meister Eckhart
Action: Daily, write down three things you're grateful for and share your gratitude with others.
Financial Health
Approach Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping thoughtfully this year. Just because there's a big sale doesn't mean you have to make impulsive purchases. If it aligns with your financial plan, go ahead. If it's a spur-of-the-moment decision, take a moment to think before hitting that buy button.
“Don’t save what left after spending, but spend what’s left after saving.”
— Warren Buffet
Action: Create a list of planned purchases and stick to it during holiday sales.
